She arrived in 2019 and has been running the east field ever since. Staff treat the gate as a standing agenda item when she is on shift: open or closed, she registers the state and responds. She gets along with most visitors who accept that the field has an order of operations. She does not require affection on arrival; she requires situational awareness. Whistling carries better than calling her name, and handlers default to that when they need her attention from a distance. Her opinions about the gate are consistent across seasons.
Field Notes
Jan 2024
Gate left unlatched during delivery. She stationed herself at the gap until staff reset it.
Mar 2024
Visitor opened the east gate assuming it was a through path. She blocked the opening until they stepped back.
Jun 2024
Whistle call from the barn. She crossed the field on the first note. Name call produced no movement.
Aug 2024
East gate closed per protocol. She completed three perimeter checks anyway, pausing at the latch each time.
Visitor Log
We thought she was just being friendly. She was deciding whether we belonged there.
Dana, Columbus
She let us pass after we waited. No drama. Clear hierarchy.
Renee, Akron
Beautiful dog. Does not care what you think her name is.
